There's no money left!

Gorillaz - 2D On Melancholy Hill
Dear Christmas,

I hate to be a Scrooge but, to be blunt, I can't afford you this year.

I don't even have any money I can fall back on in my bank account because I used up my life savings on vets bills a couple of months ago.

So please go away for about a decade!

Thank you.

Yours Humbuggedly,

~ Aissa.

Anyway, this year my family have decided on a very basic Christmas since none of us can afford it. To be honest, I'm not even sure why we celebrate Christmas. No-one in my family is religious, not that I'm aware of anyway, or if they are they've kept pretty damn quiet about it! Don't get me wrong, I like some bits of Christmas. It just seems a bit odd to celebrate the birth of someone you don't believe in! Apparently it's just for the joy of the family coming together and trying to survive until Boxing Day without murdering each other! Fun!

Also, my mum knackered the Christmas tree this year, and since we can't afford another one we've ended up with this tiny little spare one. It reminds me of that scene in Blackadder's Christmas Carol when Blackadder produces their Christmas tree... which is just a small Christmas twig! XD

Ah well, Happy Holidays to anyone out there who does celebrate something in the coming weeks. Or just have a happy few weeks in general if you don't. Until the New Year.

~ Ace.

I am very sorry to hear that. Then again, not to dismiss the suckage, but the commercialisation of Christmas and the idea that everyone is obliged to buy gifts for 50 people was probably never a good idea - most of the time people just end up spending tons of money buying stuff for others that said others do not need. My folks and I, and many of my friends, have quietly ditched the gift thing even when I and others had more money. And at the risk of sounding very annoyingly trite, I'd still say that getting to see a few relatives is not all that bad. I have a really, really tiny family that isn't getting any bigger, and it is not an uplifting situation. I hope that it turns out less of a downer; sometimes the lower your expectations, the better the reality.

I agree that the commercialisation of Christmas is not a great idea. My family struggle with it at the best of times, but this year has not been a great year - to say the least - for many reasons, and so none of us can afford it. Giving up on the gift thing sounds like a good idea. I know how you feel about the family situation. My family isn't exactly huge either. Really there's just me, my mum, my brother, my dad (who I visit separately), and then sometimes we go and visit my aunt and uncle on Boxing Day (and sometimes my other aunt will drop in too), but that's about it really. Prepare for disappointment and then you can never be disappointed - as the motto goes! XD

At least you've all agreed on having a basic Christmas rather than there being the potential for Hurt Feelings. I hope you have some nice times anyway and that no one gets murdered ;)

The Christmas tree I have in my house is pretty tiny - like, two foot tall? I'm rather fond of it being so weeny, though ^^

Happy holidays to you too!

Yeah, it'll be good to have a quiet Christmas... or at least that's the plan! Potential murderings aside!

Your Christmas tree sounds about the same size as ours. We couldn't even find a table to put ours on, so it's sitting on the floor and only comes up about thigh height! It's lucky there won't be anything to have to put under it this year, it wouldn't fit otherwise! XD

Hope you have a good one! ^_^

I support quiet Christmases! I'm always tired by this point, and having huge expectations only makes everyone stressed.

Awwwwwwwwwww! Well, at least we have trees! They're... pretty :)
